hmm sorry not really sure what happened here. What happens if you try to create the virtual environment yourself in powershell?

I’m not sure but this may be related to the fact I don’t have Python 3.12 in my PATH. I have Python 3.11 and 3.10 in PATH. Not sure 3.12 is even installed.

Ah - PowerShell. For that, we just need to add an & (if you think this is silly, you are not alone):

Incidentally this is the same error message that now shows in the terminal if I try installing ComfyUI v4.0.0.

Looks like something is not behaving with that file. Try this (please check the output for personally identifiable data before posting):

Sounds like a uv issue. Sorry to ask you to do this but can you install the latest uv here
https://docs.astral.sh/uv/getting-started/installation/

And then re-run the command? That will help us narrow down the issue.

After installing you can just run uv python list in Powershell.

Thanks, OK, I successfully installed UV, added the PATH via the provided command, then tried uv python list

Can you please take a look in C:\windows\system32? It appears you may have a broken python.exe there, that’s taking precedence over everything else.

If there is one there, I’d recommend moving that python.exe to a temporary location (e.g. just create a folder somewhere and drag/drop it over), then trying again.

Do keep the python.exe around in case you are actually using it for some app or another.

OK, removed python.exe from System32 folder and tried again from the top. Seems to have been some success:

Using CPython 3.12.4

I was then able to successfully run
& "C:\Users\Gamers\AppData\Local\Programs\@comfyorgcomfyui-electron\resources\uv\win\uv.exe" python list

( but uv python list didn’t work.)

PS C:\Windows\System32> uv python list
uv: The term 'uv' is not recognized as a name of a cmdlet, function, script file, or executable program.
Check the spelling of the name, or if a path was included, verify that the path is correct and try again.

HOWEVER I tried ComfyUI installer v4.0.0 and it finally worked. Comfy is now running on my system.

FYI, you may have added a new directory to System32: C:\Windows\System32\.venv
(assumption based on the first block from your reply)

If it’s there, it should be safe to delete - but may as well keep it in the recycle bin for a few days just in case.
